Info sheet
In the south of Portugal we offer a place for artists to work. In the past few years we have welcomed academics, musicians, poets and creative writers working on feminists topics. We offer a few weeks in our home to work urgent matters.
If you write and make art about issues from an Artistic Research or Science perspective in the domains of Feminism, Gender, Intersectionality, Art, Economics, Environmentalism, Technology and or Philosophy, or if you are a creative writer sharing stories within these domains this residency is for you. We welcome all people taking an interest in writing important works who want to escape or change their current habitat with a little break at Casa Lia.
Possible topics and sub domains might include but are not exclusive to;
The Future of Villages and Rural Areas
Intersectional Environmentalism, how to break with white elitist narratives
Non-binary identities, the struggle for safety and recognition
Inclusive technologies, how to change current patterns of discrimination and racism in the development of technology
Sustainable Deaths
Sustainable Urban Areas, how to adapt more nature in Urban areas
Inclusion, Education and Feminism, how to include more black, brown and or migrant scholars to various academic fields.
Non-human rights
Fighting fascism through art
Our home is a residential space with only a desk to work on. Therefore, it is best suited for writers, however, other artists working on the domains described are also welcome to apply and explain how they want to use the space.
We offer 2-4 weeks per participant between October and February ‘23/‘24. We will discuss specific dates with the candidates.
Our home is located in Budens, Portugal located between Sagres and Lagos and 3km from the sea.
We ask for a contribution of €100,- per week to cover the fee for housekeeping, the laundry of your linnen and amenities and €250,- for a 3 week stay and €350,- for a 4 week stay. In case you do not have sufficient funds please let us know in your application since there are some possibilities to waive the fee.
Anybody who writes can apply. We do not have any age or educational restrictions. We also invite writers who could not find an entry or connection in the academic or art world (yet) due to social and economical boundaries of the current systems in place. The house has several small steps and is not wheelchair friendly. It is, however, possible to only use the ground floor (including minor steps) and not use the stairs to the second bedroom for those with mobility issues.
